A tragic shooting unfolded at Apalachee High School in Barrow County, Georgia, placing the school on lockdown as authorities swiftly responded to the scene.

Law enforcement officials confirmed multiple casualties during the incident, which occurred Wednesday morning at the high school located approximately 40 miles northeast of Atlanta.

"At approximately 10:23 a.m., officers from various law enforcement agencies, along with Fire/EMS personnel, were dispatched to the high school in response to reports of an active shooter," the Barrow County Sheriff's Office stated.

As of now, one suspect has been taken into custody. While authorities have confirmed casualties, specific details regarding the number of victims or their conditions remain undisclosed.

Footage from the scene reveals first responders attending to injured individuals outside the school, with a heavy police presence securing the perimeter. The FBI is also actively monitoring the situation.

Governor Brian Kemp expressed his concern, saying, "I have directed all available state resources to respond to the incident at Apalachee High School and ask Georgians to join my family in praying for the safety of those in our classrooms, both in Barrow County and across the state."

"We will continue to collaborate with local, state, and federal partners as we gather more information and respond to this unfortunate event," the governor added.
