ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: Pakistan’s Journey Begins Tomorrow
Dubai, 2 October 2024 – The much-anticipated ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 kicks off tomorrow in the UAE, featuring 10 teams in an exciting 18-day tournament. Pakistan is part of Group ‘A’, sharing the pool with formidable teams such as Australia, India, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, Group ‘B’ consists of Bangladesh, England, Scotland, South Africa, and the West Indies.
Led by captain Fatima Sana, Pakistan will begin their campaign against Sri Lanka tomorrow at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. One of the most anticipated matches of the tournament will take place on 6 October, when Pakistan faces their arch-rivals, India, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium (DICS). Following this, they will take on the defending champions Australia on 11 October and conclude their group stage against New Zealand on 14 October at the same venue.
Tournament Format:
The format of the tournament will see the top two teams from each group advance to the semi-finals, scheduled for 17 and 18 October. The final showdown will be held on 20 October at the DICS, with the first ball set to be delivered at 6 PM local time.
Pakistan’s Preparations:
Prior to the tournament, Pakistan played warm-up matches against Scotland and Bangladesh, while also participating in practice sessions to adjust to the conditions. Fatima Sana expressed confidence in her squad’s readiness, highlighting the importance of their recent series against South Africa. “We’ve had a solid preparation for this mega event. The series at home gave us insight into our strengths and provided an opportunity for our batters to build form. The practice games helped us assess the conditions here and solidified our playing combinations,” said Sana.
